That's what people said about the NHL, but the Red Wings don't seem to be too affected.

When the playing field is level, the teams with the most prestige are going to get the biggest players. The most presigious team in American sports, like it or not, is the New York Yankees.

Don't get me wrong; I hate the Yankees with a passion. But the money isn't the only reason they get the big name players. Their 26 World Championships have a lot to do with it.

The one thing that would give MLB more parity is having a minimum team salary. All of these small-market teams (like my Rockies) claim that they cannot afford big-name players, while the franchises increase in value by 10's of millions each day.

a couple of things about Detroit is that since the cap they didn't loose any key players to another team. They still got basicly everyone else from their 2002 run besides Shanahan and Yzermen (and even he stayed with the during the cap era). Same can be said about Ottawa (although they have some players they may risk loosing in july due to their contracts ending)

Although as for the NHL salary it's no secret to why the past 2 years have seen very VERY tight playoff races. Just look at the standings. 8th point Boston holds an 8 point edge over 12th place Florida while in the West the Avs are in the final playoff spot but don't count 13th place Edmonton out who are only 5 points behind.

things are different now with the salary cap than they were in the year 2000 where Dallas, Detroit and Colorado owned the NHL. With an NHL salary cap more teams have oppurtunity to collect variety players since no one team can have it all. Example?
2006 Buffalo Sabres: Chris Drury, Daniel Briere, J-P Dumont. Now they're in 3 seperate teams, in which Philly and the Rangers are maybe 2 points apart and competing for executive spots in the eastern conference. And without them Buffalo is not nearly as elite, yet is on the outside looking in.

Bullcrap. I really hate it when people talk about only being good because of the money. You know what even if that was the only reason which is not, so what? The owner has the money he wants to win so yeah hes going to get the best. Why the hell would he get crappy players when he can get good ones? Seriously I'm sorry but that was a dumb statement. And no there shouldn't be a salary limit, you know why? Because the money is coming out of someone's pocket and if he has more money that means he did something right in his lifetime therefore he deserves to spend it however he wants it.

Even with a salary cap the yankees would still be good on their way you know why? Because with a salary cap the yankees would still have the most money, and it would affect many other teams as well.

Anyways lets see the yankess have Jeter, Rodriguez, Abreu, and maybe one or two more playesr that are paid a lot the rest, really isn't as much as people think, and they are pretty good like Cano
